When to sow sunflower seeds in the UK
Sunflowers are the most rewarding seed a child can sow. Start indoors in April, plant out in May, and stand back.
Sow in April
Two seeds per 9cm pot on a windowsill. Thin to the strongest seedling once they're up.
Plant out after the frosts
Late May for most of the UK. Pick the sunniest spot you've got.
Stake the tall ones
Giant Singles can hit two metres. A bamboo cane and a soft tie keeps them upright in summer storms.
